Touchscreens have revolutionized the way we use our phones, computers and tablets. Nowadays touchscreen is used everywhere, and people think it is a fairly new thing, but it has actually been around for a while.
History
Touch screen was first invented in 1972, which worked by having a screen of light run across the screen, so when your finger intercepts the light the computer reads this and works out where your finger intercepted the light.
This method was quickly developed into using small currents instead of light. this method was slightly better because it could locate your finger more accurately, but could still only read one touch at a time.

How does it work
Most modern touchscreens work by using your electrical charge to complete a circuit. The screen is made of lots of miniature circuits that depend on your electrical charge to complete them. Depending on which circuits are completed, the programming inside the device can then work out where your finger is.
